Pinglu Canal started vessel trials on Wednesday, marking a key step toward the planned opening of this major Chinese waterway in September.
The tests will assess navigation under both normal and adverse conditions and examine whether the canal's waterways, locks, anchorages, service areas and navigation facilities are ready for operation.
Designed to accommodate vessels of up to 5,000 tonnes, the 134.2-km Pinglu Canal is China's first major river-to-sea canal project planned and coordinated at the national level since 1949.
Stretching from the Pingtang River in Guangxi's Hengzhou City to the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea, the canal is the backbone of the country's New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, which has evolved into a strategic route linking China's inland regions with ASEAN and other global markets. La Cina inaugurerà il 16 settembre il Canale Pinglu, nel Guangxi, primo grande progetto nazionale di collegamento fluviale-marittimo dal 1949. Lungo 134,2 chilometri, collegherà il fiume Xijiang al golfo di Beibu, consentendo il passaggio di navi fino a 5.000 tonnellate.
Il canale ridurrà di 560 chilometri le rotte tra la Cina sud-occidentale e l’ASEAN e dovrebbe abbattere i costi logistici del 18-30%, rafforzando il Nuovo corridoio commerciale internazionale terra-mare. L’infrastruttura arriva mentre gli scambi Cina-ASEAN sono cresciuti del 18,2% nella prima metà del 2026, raggiungendo 4.340 miliardi di yuan (circa 640 miliardi di dollari).
